sunshine on ice

Today’s photo shows the same scene as yesterday’s photo taken from a different perspective. Today’s perspective was taken facing the sun, with a focus on the sun shine captured in the ice.

I googled the subject and cannot find an explanation for why this ice appears blue .. however, I think the blue comes from a reflection of the sky. The ice layer was very thin and I think it is the water, underneath, which is reflecting the blue sky.

Following is a Wikipedia article about blue glacial ice. All though it was cold I don’t think glacial applies to the ice in Charlotte. We are also sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: A photo taken facing the sun as it shines on a thin layers of ice on a pond in uptown Charlotte.
