Queen Charlotte

Today’s photo shows a statue of Queen Charlotte who the city of Charlotte was named for. The plaque says: In 1761, colonial Americans were fascinated by the royal wedding of England’s King George III to a 17 year-old princess, Charlotte Sophia if the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The settlers name their town and county after Queen Charlotte … in hopes of gaining royal favor.

Following is a link to an article about Charlotte the Queen City. We are also sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: A statue, of Queen Charlotte, found in uptown Charlotte.
