fermentory and food hall

I found the tag line to be unique on the Trolley Barn sign; a Fermentory and Food Hall. I was also intrigued by the symbol at the bottom on the sign. For a while I thought the symbol might be a Chinese letter. However, a Google search found that it is a T and B.

Following is a link to the Trolley Barn Facebook site where the symbol is larger so you can see that it is actually a T and B. We are also sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: The Trolley Barn found in the SouthEnd near uptown Charlotte.

Today’s photo was taken through a window at the Barcelona wine bar in the South End district. This is actually a photo of a photo hanging in the entrance to the Barcelona restaurant. And in the original photo you will find my reflection.

Note that the Barcelona wine bar has patio dinning with heaters which is good during the pandemic.

In the South End there is an old mill which has been converted to restaurants, work space, and retail. The area is called the “Design District” and interestingly is built around a water tower. Today’s photo shows a sign on the water tower and reads “no climbing the water tower”.

Flower Child

Yesterday evening we enjoyed a meal at the Flower Child which serves “Health Food for a Happy World. We enjoy the restaurant because of the food, the outdoor seating, and the positive messages they share.

Note that the photo was taken shortly after dusk with evening light reflecting off the Charlotte sky line.

Today’s photo shows a chess game in the South End near uptown Charlotte. As the smoke stack indicates the building on the right was an old mill site. The mill site houses multiple restaurants, a coffee shop, and retail stores. The building on the left is an apartment complex.

On a personal note; what I like most about this photo is the couple, on the left, who are holding hands.

Optimist Hall

Recently, I met work colleagues for lunch at the Optimist Hall near uptown Charlotte. An optimistic team recently created a food hall in an old mill with tables setup for crowds to enjoy their meals and drinks outdoors. Each establishment is a private business and serve foods which include hamburger, pizza, Asian, Indian, Mexican, Argentinean, Mediterranean, and deserts. There are also lots of drinks offered.

The sign, in the middle foreground says “Thank you to those who sacrifice their time and safety to keep our community moving no matter what. You are essential and we are grateful.”

Today’s photo shows another new restaurant in uptown Charlotte. What I especially like, about this restaurant, is the roof top patio. Also, their food presentation is beautiful.

Salata, a salad kitchen, has opened and the tables are full. There website says

  • your kitchen away from home
  • there’s no us without you
  • community comes first
  • wherever life takes you, take salad
  • make your salad count

outdoor seating

Today’s photo was taken on our road trip to the mountains. This is the patio at the Town Tavern. There is good food, music, drinks, and most importantly .. cool mountain air.

Note that, although Connie and I are vaccinated, we are not ready to eat inside a restaurant. However, we do enjoy restaurants with outdoor seating. Unfortunately, due to the heat, our only recent restaurant experiences have been early morning brunch. It was nice to enjoy an evening meal.

Today’s photo shows our brunch this weekend. We enjoyed breakfast tacos, sausage, gravy, biscuits, and fruit. We also enjoyed the outdoor tables which were safely spaced. The tables are in shade and very enjoyable.

I noticed this message recently in the window of the Flower Child Restaurant. Apparently the message is a quote from Voltaire. I like the message and I like the calligraphy.

patio dinning

Now that we have been vaccinated, we have chosen Tuesday night as date night. In addition we try to frequent locally owned restaurants which offer outdoor dinning. Last night we enjoyed the patio at 300 East which is one of our favorites. Connie had Salmon and I enjoyed a shrimp panini sandwich.

Flower Child

The Flower Child is one of our favorite restaurants however, because of the pandemic, it has been a year since we have eaten there. Fortunately they are still in business and now that we have received our vaccine shots we plan to enjoy a meal on their patio. Afterwards we may even relax in a yellow chair.

Note that yellow is a theme along the Rail Trail in Charlotte. Following is a link to internet images of yellow along the Rail Trail. Ruby Sunshine

Another popular restaurant is Rudy Sunshine which brings “Big Easy” twist on breakfast and brunch classics. As the photo shows Rudy Sunshine is located at 332 West Bland Street in the Southend of Charlotte. They are proud of their address :)

Zoom in, on the photo, and you will see there is a line out of the door. Their website explains that for safety customers must wait outside until their table is ready. And the tables are spaced six feet apart. In addition, they have a large covered patio with additional outdoor seating.

brunch

Today’s photo shows an outdoor brunch at Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails. This scene can be found in the Southend of Charlotte. The weather is still a little cool so a fire pit would be nice. As the weather continues to improve, brunch on the roof would be interesting.
